PINK'S HOLLYWOOD FASHION TROLLY?

I don't know how, but I forgot to announce that MC Prototype will be performing at this year's Paid Dues Festival! If you have been following his Free Speech Tour, you should have seen his thank you video a couple weeks ago. If not, here are all the Free Speech Tour videos so far. He's going to be posting one every week until Paid Dues. The lineup this year is ridiculous. Check it out here.

SKATE & DESTROY...THEN REBUILD?

As a skateboarder, I know how hard it is to say goodbye to an old skate deck. Most of us can't, so they end up getting stacked to the side somewhere. Harvest by haroshi is making use of these old skate decks and a collective of their work is currently displayed at the PLSMIS Gallery in Tokyo. The following images from the exhibition are courtesy of Brandon Shigeta.

HAZE: THE PAST & THE PRESENT

In a culture saturated with carbon copies, Eric Haze explains the importance of going back to the basics.
"What you can do with your own hand defines what you're really about as an artist."  -HAZE

Haze fans on the West Coast will get a chance to see over 30 framed pieces from the Haze x Stussy Spring/Summer 2010 collection starting February 26 at the Known Gallery on Fairfax. The exhibit will be open to the public all weekend.

ALL GONE X STUSSY X CLAE LOS ANGELES OFFICIAL BOOK LAUNCH

My team and I are going to be competing at a regional slam on Saturday and I'm playing a show with LT that night too, so I won't be able to go. If you're free, you should hit up Stussy on La Brea. Maybe you can pick up a copy of All Gone for me.

SUPPRESSION OF SPRAY PAINT

It was just announced that they are banning the use of spray paint in the art department at my school, Cal Poly Pomona. Administration says it's to protect the health of CPP's students, faculty, and the "fragile environment" surrounding our school, but still mention the graffiti on the streets around our school. I'm not convinced. Read the full article here.

HIERO Y'ALL

Last week Souls of Mischief performed a free show at the legendary Barn at UCR. Hieroglyphics are one of, if not the main reason I got into Hip-Hop, so seeing the Souls was a pretty big deal to me. I met Opio outside before their set and he was so down-to-earth. I also found out about the show about 2 hours before it started from my good friend Mondo, who hosts his radio show Mondo's Music Box on KUCR. If you like good Punk, listen to his show! Now, back to Hip-Hop...here's a video I got from the show. This song changed my life, and probably thousands of other people too. The quality of the video turned out better than I expected. Still not great, but whatever.

MISHKA LOS ANGELES

Last year at the МИШКА sample sale in Echo Park, the guys were telling me they might open their LA store in that same spot. It's cool to see they did it. I've heard a lot of great things about their Brooklyn flagship store, so I'm excited to see what they're going to do out here. Grand Opening is Feb. 20 at 12p.m.

SPARE PAINT

Been real busy with midterms and projects lately, so I'm just gonna post a couple videos from Upper Playground featuring two artists helping two men who are in a bad situation. As a side note, these two videos also inspired a new project I'm gonna be working on with one of my good friends. More info on that coming soon.

BE INSPIRED

Next Tuesday, February 9, Cal Poly Pomona will be hosting their first-ever Poetry Slam. It's going to take place in the arcade and it starts at 7pm. Admission is free. A group of my fellow students and I will be slamming for a spot on CPP's Slam Team. The 4 poets who advance will be representing CPP at this year's Regional Conference on February 20. The winners from the Regional Slam will then move on to compete in the ACUI (Association of College Union International) National Slam. If you're a student at Cal Poly, come show your support and be inspired next Tuesday, and if you're not a student, you're still welcome to come and enjoy an evening of poetry with us.

So I gotta finish writing my pieces for next Tuesday. It's been over a year since I've performed any of my poems and this will be my first time slamming, so I'm pretty excited...and nervous. Drawing inspiration everywhere, food, paper airplanes, Oprah, and this guy. Anis Mojgani has to be one of the greatest poets I have ever seen. If this doesn't help get your pen moving, I don't know what will. See you next Tuesday.

THEOPHILUS LONDON

If you know me, you know I love sharing new music. I'm sure it gets on my friends' nerves, but it's what I do. About a year ago, Theophilus London's This Charming Mixtape was released. I don't remember downloading the mixtape, but I just found it on my computer. It was like finding money in a jacket or jeans you haven't worn in a while. His music is a refreshing blend of good Pop and Hip-Hop. Earlier this month, the Brooklyn native released a music video for his new single, "Humdrum Town." I think the video is great, which is probably why I keep watching it. Leave the corny comparisons for the magazine racks and just listen.

Here's the official video:

Now, here is the videoke version:

2010 AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS CHAMPIONS: EGYPT

On Sunday, January 31, Egypt's undefeated team were crowned champions of the 2010 African Cup of Nations, which took place in Angola. This is the 7th time that Egypt returns home with the gold, and for the third straight time. Egypt was the Cup's highest scoring team, with 16 goals overall, and did I mention, they're UNDEFEATED.

Watch this: Zidan's assist to Gedo's game winning goal. By the way, Gedo was the highest scoring player of this Cup and he's from Alexandria, my city!
